Joyspotting 1.0

“It is a startling truth that how you see and what you see determines who and how you’ll be.” - John O’Donohue

Location: Port Blandford, Newfoundland Municipal Park

I came across the idea of joyspotting from Ingrid Ferrell Lee (@aestheticsofjoy) this past week, She describes ‘joyspotting’ as “ a simple practice of tuning your attention to the joy in your surroundings. It is easy, free and can be done in just a few seconds.”

So, while the girls and I were waiting this afternoon, we went joyspotting in a nearby park.

I hope this is the first version of many joyspotting adventures. A reminder that joy is always available, that there’s “little moments of joy hidden in plain sight.” (Ingrid Ferrell Lee)

Joyspotting Guide

Levels of Joy by Tenneson Woolf

I am
learning
that joy
has many levels.

There is
the joy that is
external and ready,
right in front of us.

It’s puppies,
sunshine,
the leaves turning colors,
and birthday cake.

This joy
pivots the moment
to
delight.

And then
there is the joy underneath that
that is
belonging.

Mmm, yes,
joy
through
inherent affiliation.

It’s families,
friends,
neighbors,
and united misfits.

This joy
syncs us
to
shared humanness.

And then
there is joy
that is belonging
with life itself.

This one
carries us
deep to
being.

It’s existing.
It’s breath.
It’s feeling.
It’s this moment, now.

This joy
makes
time stand still
wondrously.

Until Next Time…
